For over 100 years, Ragana village, Bishop Okinda's home area has had no High school. School drop-out and crime rates have been high and three years ago, Bishop John Okinda and his wife Pamela decided enough was enough'. They had to do something. They called on all the villagers in their neighborhood and donated over 4 acres of land to them to build a high school.
Today, Ragana village has a high school Bishop John Okinda High School with 160 students on the 9th to 11th grades. 50 percent of these kids are orphans and getting them school uniforms, books and food is a major hurdle.
The school is slowly growing and even though there's great need to build more classrooms, kitchen, toilets and a fully equipped science laboratory, the community is seeing great changes
Some of the urgent needs of the school include;
- We need volunteers to be with the needy students in the school
- School bus to help those students who walk 10-15 miles daily to get an education
- Borehole needs to be drilled within the school
- Exchange program for both the teachers and the students students
- A fully equipped library and science laboratory
- Sponsors for both teachers and students and
- Sporting equipments and uniforms
Above all, prayers
