N00979) Date Posted:      09/13/2011 Application Deadline:     10/16/2011  Job Description       * Opportunity to work in a leading scientific institution with dedicated professionals      * Offering outstanding career development and professional support      * Join CSIRO - Australia's premier science & technology research organisation    CSIRO Plant Industry Bioinformatics Team is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to contribute to a nationally important research initiative in wheat pathogenomics aimed at understanding how diverse pathogens infect wheat and how wheat defends itself. This position will directly provide bioinformatics inputs into wheat pathogenomics research and facilitate the comparative analysis and interpretation of emerging genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics datasets from diverse wheat-pathogen interactions.  Specifically you will        * Lead development of bioinformatics capability in the area of wheat pathogenomics, particularly comparative and integrative aspects across diverse pathosystems.      * Assess, maintain or develop analytical pipelines that enable biologists to make robust interpretations from a range of large wheat pathogenomics datasets.      * Actively engage with the CSIRO PI bioinformatics team and CSIRO-wide bioinformatics communities.     Location: Canberra, Brisbane or Perth (negotiable)  Salary: $75K – $82K plus up to 15.4% superannuation  Tenure: 2 years  Ref No: N00979  To be successful you will have :        * PhD degree (or will shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD) in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computer science or closely related fields.      * Demonstrated experience in developing creative solutions to bioinformatic or computational challenges      * Experience in one or several scripting environments, such as Perl, Python and R      * Motivation to liaise closely with biological practitioners to develop tailored analytical methods to respond to specialized analytical needs    About the Research Group  CSIRO Plant Industry promotes profitable and sustainable agrifood, fibre and horticultural industries, developing new plant products and improving natural resource management through world-leading research.    CSIRO Plant Industry Bioinformatics Team is a small, energetic team within Plant Industry.
