The University has the following employment opportunity:- SCHOOL OF PURE AND APPLIED SCIENCES Department of Biological Sciences Marine Biology REF: PU/ADV/22/3/2013 Requirements REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITIONS OF LECTURER Applicants must have either, * a Ph.D. degree in the relevant field or its equivalent from a recognised University OR * A Master’s degree and have successfully submitted PhD thesis to the School of Graduate Studies for final defense * Applicants for lecturer positions in specialised fields such as Medicine (Human and Veterinary) are required to have a Masters Degree in the relevant field and at least two (2) years teaching, research or professional experience in addition the first degree should be in the relevant filed. Applicants should be registered by the relevant professional body, those registered for PhD and shown progress will have an added advantage. Masters Degree holders should have published after completion of Masters Degree, * At least one (1)/ two (2) articles in refereed journals for Lecturer or Research Fellow respectively OR * At least one (1) University level book in the relevant area for both OR * At least one (1)/two (2) book chapters in an edited book in the relevant area for Lecturer or Research Fellow respectively REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITIONS SENIOR LECTURER Applicants:- * Must have a PhD in the relevant field * MUST have served for a minimum of three (3) years at Lecturers level at university and/ * Should have successfully supervised postgraduate students (2 Masters or 1 PhD * Should have attended and contributed at learned conferences, seminars or workshops. * Should have evidence of continued research and/or effective teaching. * Should be a member of relevant professional bodies (Medical Practitioners Board etc); where applicable. * Should demonstrate Leadership and coordination skills, teaching and/or research and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students * Should have published since last promotion to Lecturer :- * Three (3) articles in refereed journals for Senior Lecturer OR * One (1) refereed book in candidate’s professional area published by recognised publishers plus one (1) article OR * Two (2) book chapters in an edited book in the relevant area and one (1) article in refereed journal OR * Two (2) distinguished exhibitions or performances of original creation plus one (1) article in a refereed journal REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITIONS ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR Applicants:- 1. Must have a PhD in the relevant field 2. MUST have at least eight (8) years of continuous university teaching or research experience; three (3) of which MUST have been as a Senior Lecturer 3. Should have successfully supervised postgraduate students (4 Masters or 2 Ph.D.). 4. Should have attended or contributed at learned conferences, seminars or workshops. 5. Should have evidence of continued research and/or effective teaching 6. Should show evidence of academic leadership in his/her area of specialisation through joint research and publications 7. Should be a member of relevant professional bodies where applicable. 8. Should show evidence of leadership 9. Should have skills in developing academic programmes and curriculi 10. MUST have published since last promotion any of the following:- o Four (4) articles in refereed journals o One (1) refereed book in candidate’s professional area published by recognized publishers, plus two (2) articles, and one (1) refereed book in candidate’s professional area o Two (2) distinguished exhibitions or 2 performances of original creation plus two (2)/ four(4) articles in a refereed journal OR o One (1) patented invention/ innovation (recognised by national or international body) plus One(1) article for OR o Two (2) review articles plus two(2)) articles in refereed journal OR o One (1) International Academic /Research award plus one (1) article in refereed journal REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITIONS PROFESSOR Applicants:- * Must have a Ph.D. degree or its equivalent in the relevant field from a recognised university. * MUST have at least eleven (11) years of continuous university teaching or research experience, three (3) of which MUST have been as an Associate Professor. * Should have successfully supervised graduate students (4 Masters or 2 Ph.D.) since being appointed Associate Professor. * Should have attended or contributed at learned conferences, seminars or workshops. * Should have evidence of continued effective research, effective teaching and supervision. * Should show evidence of academic /research leadership in the area of specialization through joint research, publications and membership of professional societies. * Should show evidence of leadership. * Should have skills in developing academic programmes and curricula * MUST have published since last promotion any of the following:- * Five (5) articles in refereed journals OR * One (1) refereed book in candidate’s professional area published by recognised publishers, plus two (2) articles for Professor and one (1) refereed book in candidate’s professional area OR * Two (2) distinguished exhibitions or performances of original creation, plus two (2) OR * One (1) significant invention/innovation (recognised by national or international body) plus one (1)article OR * Two (2) review articles plus two (2) articles in refereed journal OR * One (1) International Academic /Research award plus one (1) article in refereed journal.
