Post-Doctoral Fellow with Experience in Cellulase ResearchThe J. Craig Venter Institute (“JCVI”), a not-for-profit research institute dedicated to the advancement of the science of genomics, is seeking a Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our Synthetic Biology and Bioenergy group. The successful candidate will be responsible for executing a funded research project focused on developing a technology for finding optimal combinations of cellulases for converting pretreated corn stover to sugars. The candidate will engineer Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains using synthetic biology techniques and establish assays to analyze the ability of the generated strains to degrade cellulose. The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field; a background in biomass research; excellent publication record; and proficiency in recombinant DNA work or genome engineering. Experience in working with biomass hydrolysates and solid understanding of the literature surrounding the associated protocols for working with enzymes and hydrolysates are desired. The motivation and ability to produce solid data in a timely manner and turn the work into peer-reviewed publications are essential. Experience in synthetic biology approaches, high-throughput experimentation, metabolic engineering, protein expression, or metagenomic analysis is a plus.
