There's no Ebola in Migori, says official Migori, Kenya: The Migori County government has dismissed reports that some cases of the deadly Ebola virus had been detected in the border region. "I want to assure county residents that the county is free of Ebola. I am therefore urging the residents to ignore those trying to create fear by spreading rumours of a possible Ebola outbreak in the county," said County Executive for Health Isca Oluoch in Migori town yesterday. Over the past week, there have been rumours that cases of the disease had been detected in the county, which borders both Tanzania and Uganda. Screening points She said the health department had stationed Ebola screening points along the border with Tanzania, both at Isebania and Muhuru Bay, to ensure that no person suffering from the disease came into the county. Besides screening, the executive said health facilities within all eight sub-counties had been tasked with checking for Ebola symptoms and reporting their findings to her office thrice a day. She said the county government had set aside Sh6 million for emergencies and already received protective gear as well as testing kits from the national government. She also said the health department had rolled out a civic education programme to equip the community with skills help detect symptoms of the disease "We are keen on ensuring that the community knows what to look for. This will help them report any suspicious cases to health personnel for immediate action," she said. She said the county had met with Tanzanian officials on ways to deal with the deadly virus.
