Addressing the press at the launching ceremony in Migori, General Manager Gotv Kenya Felix Kyengo assured the residents of a clear, reliable and affordable pay television service that has ever occurred in the county. “Currently GOtv is the most affordable pay television service with the widest network that offers both digital pictures and sound,” said Kyengo. He said that the move was inspired by the fact that most people in the country cannot afford Multichoice’s Dstv which is a premium pay television service hence they had to make things more affordable in the wake of digital migration. “GOtv is localized making it different from Dstv which offers premium service therefore the latter is meant to replace analog television which was accessible to everyone,” he added. Migori County Secretary Christopher Rusana who presided over the ceremony on behalf of Migori County Governor Okoth Obado termed the move as devolution of Gotv services and urged the citizens to go for the decoders for them to remain informed. “This is going to empower the people in terms of education, information and entertainment hence devolution is going to reach the most remote areas of the county,” said Rusana. He welcomed GOtv services in the county and promised conducive business environment since it was one of the major ways of improving security in the county. “When everybody can affordable pay television, there will be no need for people, more so youths to flock at one point in the name of watching football, a habit that have been cited as one major cause of crimes at night, people will be watching this games at their homes now,” he concluded. GOtv has availed their products for the past one week by constructing a transmitter and conducting sensitizing campaigns in the county.
