Hellen Obado urges women to join Saccos Suna west locals have been urged to embrace mixed farming to help sustain the economy of Migori County. Addressing the locals at Masara, Wiga ward in Suna West sub county, while launching Wiga Ward Women Sacco, Migori county Governor’s wife Hellen Obado advised the locals to work with other farming options now that the tobacco companies have left the county. “In this region, our famers were depending majorly on tobacco and now they have left, so we need to get new ways of farming like growing other crops, dairy farming or poultry keeping”. She said. Mrs. Obado however, advised the women in the area to join cooperative Sacco’s within their areas so as to access easily most of the government funds and this will bolster development in every part of the county. “A woman is the foundation of the society hence I am sure the Sacco we are registering today will help you to sustain and expand your businesses hence will lead to the growth of our county,” she added. Mrs Obado also challenged those who had not joined the Sacco to do so in order to avoid lagging behind in development. “We have moved to almost five wards and am surprised some of our women have not joined the Sacco’s, most of our women were eager to undertake business activities but they could not due to lack of capital, this is the best way of savings for our women. She warned the women and other politicians in the county to avoid politicising the Sacco activities and view it as meant to transform their lives. Mrs. Obado is rolling a poultry project and this will be distributed to Sacco members from all the 40 wards in the county. “Let every woman of this county make use of this Sacco so that we can acquire economic prosperity like people of other regions,” advised Mrs. Obado Suna West aspirant and the former Alliance One Divisional Leaf Manager (DLM) Valentine Ogongo requested the county government to look for an alternative crop that will help sustain the farmers who majorly practiced tobacco farming.
