Postdoctoral Fellow – Statistical science to improve decision making from distributed sending systems Excellent opportunity to work in a team of internationally recognised scientists • Offering outstanding career development and professional support • Join CSIRO - Australia's premier science and technology research organisation The Position In this Postdoctoral Fellow role with CSIRO Mathematics, Informatics and Statistics, you will be working with scientists from CSIRO’s Information and Communication Technology Centre and in the Sensor and Sensor Networks Transformational Capability Platform. Specifically you will: • Develop statistical models for predicting plant disease risk from on-ground sensors, weather data, and information or data from other local risk factors. • Implement computations, algorithms and visualisations of modelled risk and risk factors. • Apply, assess and improve the predictive risk models based on application data. • Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles, conference papers and presentations, patents and technical reports. • Working collaboratively, supporting the application scientists in the distributed sensing and agricultural domains to build a stronger evidence base and inferential framework. • Develop innovative concepts and ideas for further research, particularly for distributed sensor systems. Location: Hobart, Tasmania Salary: $78K - $85K plus up to 15.4% superannuation Tenure: 3 year term Ref No: TAS12/04882 To be successful you will have: • A PhD in a relevant discipline such as statistics or a related discipline. • Demonstrated conceptual and practical statistical knowledge. • Demonstrated ability to develop new statistical methods or adapt existing statistical methods to solve applied and real world problems. • Strong numerical programming and computational skills • Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to publish research results and make scientific presentations to audiences with scientific and non-scientific background • Demonstrated ability to work independently and under minimal supervision to meet project deadlines, while also contributing to the success of the team.
