Director Tropical Medicine Research The department of Pediatrics is currently seeking a Tropical Medicine Research Director. The successful candidate will work within a team environment to design and execute protein purification experiments, support analytical evaluation, interpret data, and work with other team members to integrate results into overall process and product development plans. The selected candidate will carry out downstream process development to join the process development group (including: purification process development, process scale-up, transfer of projects to GMP production facilities, support of GMP manufacturing, and support in the preparation of regulatory filings). The selected candidate will also carry out downstream processing of recombinant proteins (yeast, bacterial and insect cell systems), and assay and analysis of the resulting products, to develop scalable, robust purification procedures that produce proteins of sufficient potency, purity and quantity to supply for preclinical evaluations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: *Ability to independently design and execute experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot and effectively communicate experimental findings. *Author development reports and methods. *Utilize successful leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead portions of projects. *Provide a diligent and self-motivated approach to working in and running a bioprocess development laboratory. Minimum Education Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry or Biology required with 3-4 years of relevant experience and/or combination of education and experience (e.g. Master's with 5 or more years of relevant experience or Bachelor's candidates with 8+ years direct relevant experience) Required Skills: *Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to work as part of a project team. *Successful leadership skills with demonstrated ability to lead portions of projects. *Diligent and self-motivated approach to working in and running a bioprocess development laboratory. *Ability to independently design and execute experiments, analyze data, troubleshoot and effectively communicate experimental findings. *Advanced knowledge of equipment and procedures related to protein purification. *A basic knowledge of GxP requirements of the biotechnology industry and regulatory standards; experience in supporting the generation of regulatory submission documents. *Independently and collaboratively design and execute FPLC protein purification experiments (AKTA/Unicorn) and apply the results to process.
