OCE Post-doctoral Fellow in Environmental Sensing AnalyticsExcellent opportunity to work in a team of internationally recognised scientists • Offering outstanding career development and professional support • Join CSIRO - Australia's premier science and technology research organisation The Position The successful candidate will participate in a vibrant interdisciplinary research group and will be involved in projects addressing highly relevant research problems for Australia and beyond, with impact to the wider economy and to society. Specifically you will: • Develop a robust and rigorous theoretical formalism or adapt existing methods in novel and creative ways to interpret data coming from thousands of micro-sensors deployed in the environment; • Interpret the results and provide a meaningful rationale for identifying practical implications and possible long-term trends from the inferred environmental conditions; • Publish results in high impact journals; • Collaborate with members of the project team in micro-sensing technologies. • Implement software to deliver innovative simulations of theoretical frameworks. • Write technical reports and contribute to research proposals; • Contribute, as part of an interdisciplinary team, to the analysis of experimental results; • Supervise graduate students associated with the research program; • Other duties as required. Location: Hobart, Tasmania Salary: $78K - $85K plus up to 15.4% superannuation Tenure: 3 year term Ref No: TAS13/01165 To be successful you will have: • A PhD in Applied Mathematics, Physics, or Statistics. • Demonstrated strong experience in developing theoretical formalisms to interpret real-world systems. • Experience in developing software in C/C++, Java, Python and/or other languages and statistical packages such as SAS products, SPSS, MATLAB and R or S. • Familiarity with simulation techniques such as the Monte Carlo method and/or time-series analysis techniques. • Demonstrated experience in working with interdisciplinary teams. • Outstanding publication record of reports for industry and peer-review journal papers.
