This is your opportunity to join them – and to fulfil your own. Are you a passionate synthetic and chemical biology scientist? If so, we’re looking for a highly motivated individual to join our oncology Innovative Medicines (iMED). Here you’ll embark on a research project that involves designing, synthesizing and studying boron containing small molecule inhibitors to target amino acid side chains in disease associated protein. You’ll be developing synthetic methodology towards boron containing molecules and performing some biological study of these molecules in proteins. Your scientific research will also provide the opportunity to work with (and influence) fellow scientists across many other disciplines. You will be expected to deliver the results of your novel research in-house via global working groups and externally via meetings and through publications. Responsibilities • Develop synthetic methodology toward novel boron containing molecules. • Design and synthesize boron containing drug like molecules. • Performing biological studies of these molecules in targeted proteins to identify covalent modifiers and in-depth characterization (by collaboration with biology discipline). • Show strong initiative in developing ideas. • Interface with scientists from different disciplines while at the same time being able to work independently. • Present research results both within AstraZeneca and externally at meetings and/or through publications. • Write and publish scientific papers describing the research results. Minimum Requirements - Education and Experience • A PhD in organic synthesis with some biochemistry background. • Familiarity with enzyme inhibition kinetics and chemical biology approaches. • Independent research effective in developing new ideas, creating solutions, and driving cross-discipline collaborations. • Proven track record in striving for high-level of innovation and scientific excellence. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Skills and Capabilities • Understanding fundamental enzymology and willing to work across disciplines in a dynamic drug discovery group. • Understanding of cell biology and DMPK is a plus.
