PostDoc positions in algebra, condensed matter physics, theoretical physics and general relativity and gravitationFaculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral position • in the area of Algebra The aim of the project is to apply universal algebra and/or group theory to obtain structural results in various classes of non-associative algebras. We are particularly interested in quasigroups and loops, and in selfdistributive systems, such as quandles. An optional route is a search for applications of the structure theory of quandles in knots. The project will be supervised by Dr. David Stanovsky. Applicants should have a PhD and strong background in at least one of the following subjects: universal algebra, permutation groups, theory of quasigroups and loops, theory of quandles and their applications in knots. • in Condensed Matter Physics – Study of structural properties of random layered systems We are seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher with a strong background both in condensed matter physics theory and experimental methods, as well as in modeling and experimental data treatment, to join a research project in the area of x-ray scattering and coherent scattering from random layered systems; his/her research will focus on x-ray scattering theory, experimental methods and data evaluation (including phase-retrieval methods) of random layered epitaxial layers and nanostructures. The project is hosted by the Department of Condensed Matter Physics at the Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics. The candidates should have a PhD in condensed-matter physics, solid-state physics or physics of nanostructures. For more information about this post, please e-mail Professor Václav Holý at holy@mag.mff.cuni.cz. • in Theoretical Physics The Department of Condensed Matter Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University, Prague seeks to fill an opening for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the field of theoretical physics of condensed matter. The research team in Prague consists of two groups cooperating between the Charles University and the Academy of Sciences of CR on various aspects of quantum transport in condensed matter. It includes theoretical work on basic questions of an open important problem concerning charge transport in nano-structures with internal dynamics, as well as numerical work involving both direct simulations and solution of quantum transport equations. For more information about this post, please e-mail Dr. T. Novotný at tno@karlov.mff.cuni.cz. • in the area of General Relativity and Gravitation Institute of Theoretical Physics, Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, Charles University in Prague, invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral position position within Prague relativity group to a motivated person, working in the field of general relativity and/or its astrophysical or cosmological applications. More specifically, his/her doctoral expertise and research plan should include at least one of the following topics: solutions of Einstein's field equations and their interpretation, problems of energy and radiation in GR, asymptotic structure of space-times, particles and fields around black holes, dynamics of particles and extended bodies in GR, physics of neutron stars, black-hole perturbations, approximation methods and numerical relativity, gravitational lensing, contemporary cosmology (cosmological models and their perturbations, dark matter and dark energy, early universe). For more information about this post, please e-mail Ass. Prof. Oldřich Semerák Oldrich.Semerak@mff.cuni.cz ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The positions offer: • 1 year contract from October 2013 with a possible renewal in case of mutual interest • 35,000 CZK per month – base pay Interested candidates with a PhD. (5 years or less) degree related to the research area should submit: • CV • brief description of research expertise and plans (1–2 pages) • list of publications • copy of PhD thesis (or a link for downloading) • two letters of recommendation Submissions should be emailed to stibor@dekanat.mff.cuni.cz not later than June 10, 2013. Shortlisted candidates may be invited for an interview.
