Postdoctoral AssociateThe Duke Human Vaccine Institute and the Center for HIV/AIDS Vaccine Immunology and Immunogen Discovery (CHAVI-ID), providing national and international leadership in the fight against major infectious diseases, is currently recruiting for Postdoctoral Associates. We are seeking a highly motivated graduate to join our team involved in the development of a preventive HIV-1 vaccine. The selected candidate will be responsible, as a team member of our laboratory, for the identification, isolation and characterization of antibodies with anti-HIV activity obtained from both human clinical samples and non-human primate models to optimize immunogen design and to evaluate vaccine candidates’ efficacy. Qualified candidates must have a M.D. and/or a Ph.D. in Immunology or Microbiology, or a related discipline. Experience in cell culture, in particular with primary human cells, PCR and molecular biology techniques, flow cytometry, virus isolation/cell culture, immunoassays and familiarity with high throughput automated screening systems are desired. (Please reference “MB-PD” in subject line of email) We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to work on an international team of nine labs funded by NIAID/NIH to study the effects of atomic bomb radiation and aging on the human immune system. Investigators in both the United States and Japan are systematically analyzing biological samples from the unique population of elderly Japanese atomic bomb survivors to better understand the health consequences of exposure to ionizing radiation on the natural aging process. Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. in Biostatistics or the equivalent as well as programming experience in R. Experience with analysis of basic science experiments and/or gene expression and pathway analysis preferred. The project involves the design, optimization, and evaluation of novel recombinant mycobacteria vectors (rMycobacteria) that elicit durable systemic and mucosal immune responses that are not suppressed by pre-existing anti-vector immunity. Qualified candidates with a Ph.D. and/or M.D. and experience with Immunology assays/methods (in particular, Humoral immune response), Microbiology, Genetics and/or Molecular Biology techniques are encouraged to apply.
