This provides a perfect chance to contribute to the development and study of organic chemistry principles which have significant importance in the South Pacific Region such as studies of soil, food and water chemistry, natural products chemistry, biochemistry, polymer chemistry and recent advances in chromatography and spectroscopy. For more information visit http://www.sbces.fste.usp.ac.fj/ The Opportunity As Professor in Organic Chemistry, you will have a unique opportunity to shape the learning of current and future leaders of the Pacific Region. You will occasionally travel around the Pacific Islands to visit USP’s various campuses and have the prospect of acting in an advisory capacity to governments of Pacific countries and the many Non-Governmental Organisations and Projects in the Region. The Professor may also be required to take on the position of Head of School from time to time. Responsibilities of your role will include: • Contribute to leadership and fostering excellence in research, teaching, professional activities and policy development in the chemistry division, the school, the faculty and the University. • Make a major contribution to research in one of the two areas of environmental chemistry and natural products chemistry • Provide leadership in research training, especially in the supervision of Masters and PhD research students • Contribute to administrative roles in this area, such as coordination and monitoring of postgraduate studies in the School • Contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Chemistry, preferably in Organic Chemistry and related areas such as Environmental Chemistry or Food Chemistry, including through distance education mode at other University Campuses within the Pacific Islands, is also expected. The Person To be considered for this position you must have: • A Ph.D in Organic Chemistry • An established record of excellence in teaching and research • Demonstrated sustained success in publishing in international journals • Demonstrated success at attracting and supervising high quality postgraduate research students • Proven success at attracting external research funding • Ability to provide high level academic leadership and act as a mentor to other staff • Proven ability to communicate and work effectively with staff and students Preference will be given to applicants with: • Demonstrated experience in working in developing countries and/or a multicultural environment • Sound leadership skills • Willingness to work as a member of a dynamic team Remuneration The position is available for a term of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement Salary Range: F$115,248 to F$124,592 per annum (Inclusive of 15% gratuity) The University may pay an inducement allowance to secure the services of an exceptionally well qualified candidate. In addition to the above benefits, the University contributes 10% of basic salary to an approved superannuation scheme, provides airfare and relocation costs where appropriate.
